भगवान शिव ने मां पार्वती को पक्षी शास्त्र में वर्णित मोर के महत्व के बारे में बताया है। प्राचीन काल में संध्या नाम का एक असुर हुआ था। वह बहुत शक्तिशाली और तपस्वी असुर था। गुरु शुकाचार्य के कारण संध्या देवताओं का शत्रु बन गया था।
संध्या असुर ने कठोर तप कर शिवजी और ब्रह्मा को प्रसन्न कर लिया था। ब्रह्माजी और शिवजी प्रसन्न हो गए तो असुर ने कई शक्तियां वरदान के रूप में प्राप्त की। शक्तियों के कारण संध्या बहुत शक्तिशाली हो गया था। शक्तिशाली संध्या भगवान विष्णु के भक्तों का सताने लगा था। असुर ने स्वर्ग पर भी आधिपत्य कर लिया था, देवताओं को बंदी बना लिया था। जब किसी भी तरह देवता संध्या को जीत नहीं पा रहे थे, तब उन्होंने एक योजना बनाई।
योजना के अनुसार सभी देवता और सभी नौ ग्रह एक मोर के पंखों में विराजित हो गए। अब वह मोर बहुत शक्तिशाली हो गया था। मोर ने विशाल रूप धारण किया और संध्या असुर का वध कर दिया। तभी से मोर को भी पूजनीय और पवित्र माना जाने लगा।
ज्योतिष शास्त्र में भी मोर के पंखों का विशेष महत्व बताया गया है। यदि विधिपूर्वक मोर पंख को स्थापित किया जाए तो घर के वास्तु दोष दूर होते हैं और कुंडली के सभी नौ ग्रहों के दोष भी शांत होते हैं।
घर का द्वार यदि वास्तु के विरुद्ध हो तो द्वार पर तीन मोर पंख स्थापित करें।
सूर्य के लिए :
रविवार के दिन नौ मोर पंख लेकर आएं और पंख के नीचे मैरून रंग का धागा बांध लें। इसके बाद एक थाली में पंखों के साथ नौ सुपारियां रखें, गंगाजल छिड़कते हुए 21 बार इस मंत्र का जप करें।
ॐ सूर्याय नमः जाग्रय स्थापय स्वाहा:
इसके बाद दो नारियल सूर्य भगवान को अर्पित करें।
चंद्र के लिए :
सोमवार को आठ मोर पंख लेकर आएं, पंख के नीचे सफेद रंग का धागा बांध लें। इसके बाद एक थाली में पंखों के साथ आठ सुपारियां भी रखें। गंगाजल छिड़कते हुए 21 बार इस मंत्र का जप करें।
ॐ सोमाय नमः जाग्रय स्थापय स्वाहा:
पान के पांच पत्ते चंद्रमा को अर्पित करें। बर्फी का प्रसाद चढ़ाएं।
मंगल के लिए :
मंगलवार को सात मोर पंख लेकर आएं, पंख के नीचे लाल रंग का धागा बांध लेँ। इसके बाद एक थाली में पंखों के साथ सात सुपारियां रखें। गंगाजल छिड़कते हुए 21 बार इस मंत्र का जप करें…
ॐ भू पुत्राय नमः जाग्रय स्थापय स्वाहा:
पीपल के दो पत्तों पर चावल रखकर मंगल ग्रह को अर्पित करें। बूंदी का प्रसाद चढ़ाएं।
बुध के लिए :
बुधवार को छ: मोर पंख लेकर आएं। पंख के नीचे हरे रंग का धागा बांध लें। एक थाली में पंखों के साथ छ: सुपारियां रखें। गंगाजल छिड़कते हुए 21 बार इस मंत्र का जप करें।
ॐ बुधाय नमः जाग्रय स्थापय स्वाहा:
जामुन बुध ग्रह को अर्पित करें।
केले के पत्ते पर रखकर मीठी रोटी का प्रसाद चढ़ाएं।
गुरु के लिए :
गुरुवार को पांच मोर पंख लेकर आएं। पंख के नीचे पीले रंग का धागा बांध लें। एक थाली में पंखों के साथ पांच सुपारियां रखें। गंगाजल छिड़कते हुए 21 बार इस मंत्र का जप करें।
ॐ बृहस्पते नमः जाग्रय स्थापय स्वाहा:
ग्यारह केले बृहस्पति देवता को अर्पित करें।
बेसन का प्रसाद बनाकर गुरु ग्रह को चढ़ाएं।
शुक्र के लिए :
शुक्रवार को चार मोर पंख लेकर आएं। पंख के नीचे गुलाबी रंग का धागा बांध लेँ। एक थाली में पंखों के साथ चार सुपारियां रखें। गंगाजल छिड़कते हुए 21 बार इस मंत्र का जप करें।
ॐ शुक्राय नमः जाग्रय स्थापय स्वाहा:
तीन मीठे पान शुक्र देवता को अर्पित करें।
गुड़-चने का प्रसाद बना कर चढ़ाएं।
शनि के लिए :
शनिवार को तीन मोर पंख ले कर आएं। पंख के नीचे काले रंग का धागा बांध लें। एक थाली में पंखों के साथ तीन सुपारियां रखें। गंगाजल छिड़कते हुए 21 बार इस मंत्र का जप करें-

तीन मिटटी के दीपक तेल सहित शनि देवता को अर्पित करें।
गुलाब जामुन या प्रसाद बना कर चढ़ाएं। इससे शनि संबंधी दोष दूर होता है।
राहु के लिए :

चौमुखा दीपक जलाकर राहु को अर्पित करें।

शनिवार को सूर्य अस्त होने के बाद एक मोर पंख लेकर आएं। पंख के नीचे स्लेटी रंग का धागा बांध लें। एक थाली में पंख के साथ एक सुपारी रखें। गंगाजल छिड़कते हुए 21 बार इस मंत्र का जप करें।
